According to Dan Hayes of the North County Times, the San Diego Padres will restart extension talks with Cameron Maybin next month. The club reportedly had a recent "broad discussion about a deal for Maybin," but did not make an offer.
Maybin, 24, was acquired from the Florida Marlins last offseason in exchange for Edward Mujica and Ryan Webb. The centerfielder went on to put up the best numbers of his career, posting a .264/.323/.393 slash line despite playing half his games in PETCO Park. He was an asset with the glove as well, as his +12 defensive runs saved and +9.5 UZR were both excellent.
He's set to hit free agency in 2016, and won't be arbitration-eligible until 2013. San Diego had reportedly worked on a potential extension for Maybin back in September, though they were "far apart."
