San Francisco Giants Sign Boof Bonser
The Reynolds Sports Agency has announced via twitter that their client Boof Bonser has signed with the San Francisco Giants. Bonser, a right handed pitcher, has not seen the MLB since 2010 with the Boston Red Sox.
Having Tommy John surgery in mid 2011, he will not be ready to pitch with the Giants until mid season. Bonser was originally a Giant, and was traded to the Minnesota Twins as a part of the AJ Pierzynski trade. He then pitched most of his career with the Twins before being signed by the Red Sox in the 2010 off season.
His deal with the Giants is a minor league agreement, He has a career Earned Run Average of 5.18 in 416 2/3 innings over his career. When he becomes healthy, he will likely stay in the Giants minor leagues and be a September call up, unless the Giants really need a pitcher. He will likely come out of the bullpen if that is the case.

wow
now just need Nathan and Liriano, and order will be restored to the universe!
Hopefully his rehab goes well and he’s able to pitch again. Depending on who else they find this offseason they’ll be desperate for starters at AAA/Fresno, and unless Zito finds his mojo in the next couple of months they’ll be desperate for a 5th starter in SF too. They’ve had pretty good luck with scrap heap pitchers, as such things go, so maybe he’ll be another of those bargains.

Yeah, I’m a bit concerned about how the back-end of the rotation (Vogelsong/Zito) will hold up. Hopefully when Surkamp is given a spot in the rotation, he pitches better than he did in those six major-league starts this year…
