Cabrera's Drinking Common in the 50's
Miguel's drinking is sad as it is with anyone with an addiction. In the 50's, Mickey Mantle was an alcoholic,as were many of his pals with the Yankees. Why did the Mick not get arrested? Probably because he was the Mick and no cop in NY wanted to be the one to expose the problem. Same with Ford ans the others. Today, a policeman would not even recognize Miguel Cabrera, let alone give him a break . I'm not say he should get a break, just pointing out the difference in culture now, and then.

Things change over time.
Back then, they weren’t going to arrest Mickey Mantle because it was freaking Mickey Mantle, but now they’re stricter and they’ll arrest a star. Ex: Lindsey Lohan, Joba Chamberlain
For every action, there is a corresponding over-reaction.

He was arrested, but the whole thing evaporated.
PeeWee Reese tells the story in Roger Kahn’s, The Boys of Summer, when he was stopped for speeding, while en route from home to Ebbetts Field. He had Duke Snider and another Dodger in the back seat. The cop gushed all over them, and of course no ticket.
Not very long after that, it was Snider’s turn to drive to the ballpark, and he got stopped for speeding. He pointed out to the cop that he was the famous ballplayer, Duke Snider (as the cop read “Edwin Snider” on the license). The cop responded,
" I hate baseball" and continued to write the ticket for speeding.
Snider told Roger Kahn he would have had to pay that ticket, too, if he didn’t get the Brooklyn borough president to “fix” it.
