Late Spring Trades or Out of Options?
All winter long the fans of the Cleveland Indians have wondered who's on 3rd. The answers given by the team and local media always resulted in the Gas Face response from the fanbase. I ended up writing a blog entry about this and felt inclined to include the old "Gas Face" song by 3rd base. Turns out the lead rapper of 3rd base was a big time MLB Historian and collector who turned out to be a big fraud. The end of the blog entry has some great links covering the story but it's worth the read. Here is a link to the blog: http://tribetalk365.blogspot.com/2011/01/tribe-and-3rd-base-gas-face-response.html
Now, so people don't think I'm just using this spot to pimp my blog or anything, here is the rumor part. The Indians were planning on using Jason Donald to play 3rd base until Lonnie Chisenhall is ready. Donald recently broke a finger on his hand and will be out past opening day (thinking more like end of April). The Indians are ready to turn to Jack Hannahan (Gas Face here) at 3b until Donald can return. As mentione in my blog post, I suspected that the Indians may look toward an end of spring training pickup to fill the position much like they did when they aquired Paul Sorrento in the early 90's. As spring training comes to an end there are several inetersting candidates out there: Brandon Wood (out of options), Albert Callapso (on trade block), and Elliot Johnson (out of options). And of course the big player in the game would be Chris Davis from Texas. Are there more 3b prospects out there that may be available as we near the end of spring training? Can the Gods of baseball allow the Indians some luck after trading Brandon Phillips at the end of the 2006 spring training?
