The Padres have acquired pitcher Eddie Kunz from the Mets in exchange for first baseman Allan Dykstra, according to the Wall Street Journal. Both players were former first round picks of their respective clubs, but both are in need of a change of scenery as they have not excelled and no longer necessary to the plans of the organization.
The 23-year-old Dykstra hit 16 home runs last season for Class A Lake Elsinore. The Padres made him their first-round pick in the 2008 draft, but almost didn't sign him after it was discovered he had a degenerative hip condition.
Kunz was a dominant reliever in college but has not excelled since his big league call up back in 2008. Since then he has posted a combined 5.18 ERA. The 6-5 right hander might benefit playing in a big stadium in warm weather.
