Astros catcher Jason Castro out for year with torn ACL

Stay connected for news and updates

Former first-round pick and Astros starting catcher Jason Castro will miss the nearly the entire season with a torn ACL, according to MLB.com. In 3 minor league seasons, Castro has hit .287 with 16 home runs in 795 at-bats.

Castro hit .205 with 2 home runs in 65 games at the MLB-level with a .286 on-base percentage in his stint in the MLB, but this setback hopefully won't set the Stanford product back too far in his development. Humberto Quintero and J.R. Towles will share the duties behind the plate.
