After two devastating outings, the Angels have decided to remove closer Fernando Rodney and place Jordan Walden in the role. Rodney posted a 13.50 ERA in two games, walking four and striking out two. Walden already has five strike outs and has not surrendered a run yet.
Walden, 23, posted a 2.35 ERA in 16 games with the Angels last season, and owns a career 3.38 ERA in 99 career minor league games.
Since Francisco Rodriguez has left the Angels for the Big Apple, the Angels have been scrambling to full the closer role with an effective closer. Walden is on pace to fill the shoes and be a force for them.
