Red Sox Acquire Franklin Morales From Rockies

According to Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe, the Rockies have traded Franklin Morales to the Red Sox for a player to be named later or cash. To make room for Morales on the roster, the Red Sox have designated Hideki Okajima for assignment.

Troy Renck noted that the trade clears the way for the Rockies to call up Rex Brothers, a 2nd round pick in the 2009 Draft. With Morales' slow start, Brothers is probably going to be more effective than Morales. Renck also says that the Pirates had interest in Morales prior to being traded.
