Dan Johnson Designated for Assignment by Rays

According to a team press release, the Rays have designated Dan Johnson for assignment and have optioned Rob Delaney to Triple-A. In corresponding moves, the Rays have called up Justin Ruggiano and J.P. Howell.

Johnson, who split time with Casey Kotchman at first base, so far hasn't really hit at all thus making him an easy choice to clear room for the duo. Howell, who missed all of the 2010 season is back and healthy and ready to make his first appearance tonight.
