The DL on the DL

Updates from around Major League Baseball on players who are "freshly back" from the disabled list or "newly gone" to the DL.

Freshly Back:
  • San Diego Padres CF Cameron Maybin: Maybin was on the DL for a total of 16 days after being placed there May 28th with patellar tendonitis in his right knee. Originally a first round draft pick by the Detroit Tigers, Maybin has bounced around to three different organizations in his brief four-plus year career. He has yet to accumulate more than 322 plate appearances in a season and has a career .315 on base percentage. Catcher Kyle Phillips was optioned to Triple-A Tucson.
  • Detroit Tigers RF Magglio Ordonez: Ordonez was on the DL for a total of 33 days after being placed there on May 11th with right ankle weakness. Ordonez has a career batting average of .310, but has not been able to put anything together this year, batting only .172. Right handed pitcher Enrique Gonzalez was outrighted to Triple-A Toledo.
  • Chicago Cubs 2B Jeff Baker: Baker was on the DL for a total of 15 days after being placed there May 29th with a left groin strain. Kerry Wood was placed on the DL.
Newly Gone:
  • San Diego Padres RHP Aaron Harang - 15-Day DL retroactive to June 10th, Sore right foot: Harang has missed quite a few games throughout his career to various injuries. This is his first year with the Padres and he has been enjoying the confines of Petco Park: He has a 3.28 ERA in seven games there this season. Anthony Bass made his major league debut tonight and went five innings, giving up five hits and four walks, but only one run. The game was delayed by rain in the sixth inning.
  • Chicago Cubs RHP Kerry Wood - 15-Day DL retroactive to June 9th, Blister on his right index finger: Wood's injury history is well-documented as well. This is his first trip to the DL this year. Jeff Baker was activated from the DL.
