The St. Louis Cardinals released RHP Ryan Franklin, who has struggled mightily this year. Franklin has allowed 27 runs in 27.2 innings pitched this year, posting an 8.46 ERA and recording only 17 strikeouts.
The Cardinals were considering placing Franklin on the DL, but opted to release him instead. No corresponding move has been announced yet.
