Royals To Release Kyle Davies

When there were rumors that the Royals were shopping Kyle Davies, the most common reaction was probably, "Who would ever want Kyle Davies?"

Well, we're probably going to find out soon, as Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star is reporting that the Royals intend to release Davies in order to call up catcher Salvador Perez. The move ends a nearly four-year run with the Royals for Davies, who started 88 games for the Royals over the past four seasons.

His ERA marks have routinely been ugly in Kansas City, with figures above 5.3 in each of the past three seasons and a brutal 6.75 mark in 13 starts this season, although his peripherals were actually pretty decent this year. He doesn't turn 28 until September and he can still hit 94 with his fastball, so I'd expect him to catch on with another team pretty quickly.
