Over the past couple of weeks, the St. Louis Cardinals have played Extreme Makeover: Bullpen Edition. They have added Octavio Dotel, Marc Rzepczynski, and moved Kyle McClellan to their bullpen and now they have added another veteran arm.
Rhodes had a 4.81 ERA, 5.6 K/9, 2.7 BB/9, and a 32.9% Ground Ball Percentage in 24.1 innings. On the good side, Rhodes was able to hold left-handed batters to a .216/.310/.405 slash line with two HR's in 42 plate appearances in 2011.
Rhodes' biggest problem with the Rangers was giving up the long ball. He was giving up almost 2.3 HR's/9 in 2011. However, the majority of his issues came at home. Perhaps getting away from the hitter friendly Ballpark at Arlington and having Dave Duncan getting Rhodes back to throwing ground balls will help Rhodes turn his season around.
