UPDATE 08/15: This deal is now official according to the club.
RHP Dave Bush has agreed to a Minor League deal with the Phillies and will report to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Bush opted out of his minor league deal with the Chicago Cubs' AAA Iowa club only three days ago, where he struggled to maintain a 6.14 ERA after five starts and going 1-2. Before that, Bush was designated for assignment by the Texas Rangers after a disappointing 5.79 ERA in 17 appearances.
Assuming the right-handed Bush passes his physical, he'll play for AAA Lehigh Valley Ironpigs. While he will likely not impact the major league roster, this appears to be purely a depth move which might allow the team some flexibility in the near term. This is the second move the Phillies have made in as many days after signing Jack Cust to a minor league deal.
Are these the moves of a team that thinks it belongs in the World Series this year, and they're just attempting to round out any downstream questions that might arise? Or are these the bored moves of a team that believes it's already in the Series?
