The Tigers announced on their Twitter feed today that they have agreed to a contract with second-round pick James McCann. A catcher from the University of Arkansas, McCann was taken with the 76th overall pick by the Tigers and has reportedly signed for $558K according to Baseball America's Jim Callis.
The bonus is slightly above slot, but it's still a good investment for the Tigers. Before the draft, ESPN's Keith Law ranked McCann as the 59th-best prospect in the class, noting that he is, "a solid defensive catcher whose bat will determine whether he's an everyday guy or, more likely, a quality backup."
