The Washington Nationals released right-handed reliever Adam Carr from the organization and designated right-handed pitcher Garrett Mock for assignment today, according to Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post.

The roster moves were made in order to clear space on the 40-man roster for right-handed starting pitchers Stephen Strasburg, Brad Peacock, and middle-infielder Stephen Lombardozzi. Pitching phenom Strasburg was activated from the 60-day disabled list, while Lombardozzi and pitching prospect Peacock were selected from Class Triple-A Syracuse.

Carr, 27, posted a 6.63 ERA, 6.2 K/9, 5.7 BB/9, 1.9 HR/9 in 19 innings at the Triple-A level. The 27-year-old had been in the Nationals organization since 2006, but never made it to the big leagues.

The other casualty is right-handed pitcher Garrett Mock, who was designated for assignment. Mock has been with the Nationals organization since 2006, when he was acquired via trade. The 28-year-old threw 135 2/3 innings for the Nationals at the majors, but hasn't made an appearance since 2010 when he tossed 3 1/3 innings.
