The Philadelphia Phillies have announced via twitter and press release that they are releasing John Bowker to pursue an opportunity with a team in Japan.
Bowker, 28, "pinch hitter, first baseman, and outfielder" had little success in the biggs since his debut in 2008 with the Giants. He's a career .232 / .283 / .382 hitter, and if you're into wins above replacement, has generated negative value (almost negative 2 WAR) over the course of 4 seasons.
