The Washington Natonals have signed Jesus Flores to a 1-year deal and avoid arbitration, according to the team twitter feed. The deal is worth $815 thousand, according to Tim Dierkes.

Flores, a 27 year old right-handed catcher, enters his fifth season, the previous four of which have all been with Washington. He did miss all of 2010 following surgery, prompting the Nationals to pursue Ivan Rodriguez. Flores didn't exactly come back with a vengeance, hitting just .209 in 2011 in 90 plate appearances.

He's a career .253 / .305 / .394 hitter, though, and looks to bounce back as the Nationals' backup catcher behind Wilson Ramos.
