The Chicago Cubs have signed right-handed starter Rodrigo Lopez to a minor-league contract; he'll be a non-roster invitee at Spring Training with Chicago.
Lopez, 36, spent the 2011 season with the Cubs, posting a 4.42 ERA (88 ERA+) with a 5.0 K/9, 2.7 BB/9, and 1.7 HR/9 in 97.2 innings. He's lasted ten seasons in the majors, though he hasn't been particularly good since 2004, when he pitched to a 128 ERA+ in 170 innings with the Baltimore Orioles. In fact, he's compiled -0.6 wins above replacement over the last five seasons.
