Bill Ladson of MLB.com writes that while the Nationals remain in the running for top free agent Prince Fielder, they aren't close to finalizing a deal with him. Last night, Jim Bowden of ESPN reported that the sides were working on a contract.
In addition to the Baltimore Orioles and Texas Rangers, the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners are reportedly still in the mix for Fielder as well, though they're not willing to go further than five years in terms of contract length.
