Detroit Tigers, Prince Fielder to Sign 9-Year, $214M Deal
And just like that, the deal was done. The Detroit Tigers have agreed to sign Prince Fielder to a 9-year, $214 million deal, according to the real Jon Heyman. This signing is clearly the last blockbuster free-agent move of the off-season, and helps Detroit answer the question of how to replace Victor Martinez now that he's out for the 2011 season.
Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports reported the deal was close, only minutes after a fake twitter account caught several media members off their game. But this time it's real. Ken Rosenthal confirms the deal.
- Twitter / @JonHeymanCBS - "fielder gets 9 yrs, $200_plus mil. @TBrownYahoo said close"
- Twitter / @JonHeymanCBS - "prince agrees with #tigers"
- Twitter / @TBrownYahoo - "Source: Prince is very close to a nine-year contract with the Detroit Tigers, according to sources."
- Twitter / @Ken_Rosenthal - "Confirming: Prince close on nine-year, $214M deal with #Tigers, according to source."
