Red Sox Designate Atchison, Avoid Batter #667, Clear Room for Cody Ross
The Boston Red Sox have designated right-handed pitcher Scott Atchison for assignment, clearing room for newly-signed outfielder Cody Ross, according to the team.
Atchison, 35, has seen limited action in the Majors -- just 158 innings over a sporadic 5 seasons. He has a career 4.09 ERA, and for you religious types, Atchison has faced exactly 666 batters in his big league career. Personally, I'd quit there and spook everyone with it.

Red Sox Sign Cody Ross - MLB Daily Dish
After trading shortstop Marco Scutaro, the Boston Red Sox freed up $6 million in payroll. Many believed the club would use that money to sign or trade for a starting pitcher (read: Roy Oswalt), but they opted to sign an outfielder instead - at least for now. According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the Red Sox have signed free-agent outfielder Cody Ross to a deal. -

You mean “designate former Giant Atchison” to make room for “former Giant Ross!” The circle of life.
