The Cleveland Indians and free-agent reliever Dan Wheeler have come to an agreement on a minor league contract with an invite to spring training, the club announced in a press release. The club also announced the signings of pitcher Jose De La Torre and infielder Ryan Rohlinger - minor league deals without an invite to camp.
Wheeler, 34, posted a 4.38 ERA across 49 1/3 innings of work with a 7.1 K/9 and 1.5 BB/9 last season with the Boston Red Sox. The reliever became a free-agent after the Red Sox declined his $3 million 2012 team option in October.
However, because it's a non-guaranteed contract the Red Sox won't get compensation for the Type-B free agent, as Alex Speier of WEEI notes.
