Arizona Diamondbacks, Miguel Montero Are Far Apart In Extension Talks

Stay connected for news and updates

Before coming to an agreement on a one-year deal to avoid salary arbitration today, the Arizona Diamondbacks and catcher Miguel Montero were working on a multi-year contract. Obviously, they didn't come to an agreement on a multi-year contract, but the two sides will continue to negotiate a possible deal.

With that being said, Miguel Montero told Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic he'd like to stop contract talks by late March, perhaps March 20th, so he could focus on the regular season. D'Backs GM Kevin Towers also spoke with reporters, and told them the two sides are "quite a ways apart on a multi-year" pact. The problem isn't years, though, but the amount of money.

  • Twitter / @nickpiecoro: Miguel Montero says he'd like to wrap up contract talks by late March, maybe March 20, so he'd have time to regroup, get focused for year.
  • Twitter / @nickpiecoro: "We're quite a ways apart on a multi-year (with Montero)," Towers said. Said the gap is more dollars than years.
