WEDNESDAY UPDATE: Per Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes, the deal is for $1.75 million in 2012, with a $2.5 million option in 2013 with a $250K buyout.
According to a report from the Associated Press, the Tampa Bay Rays have signed free-agent reliever Fernando Rodney to a one-year deal worth just over $2 million. Rodney, currently playing winter ball in the Dominican, confirmed the signing and said the deal will be completed sometime in January.
Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports the deal isn't done, but is definitely in the works and could be official in the next day or two. It's likely a physical is the only thing holding up the deal from becoming official. Topkin also notes Rodney's parent club is listed as the Rays on MLB.com.
Rodney, 34, posted a 4.50 ERA across only 32 innings of work with a strikeout-to-walk ratio below 1.00 last season with the Angels.
