In a corresponding roster move the Red Sox have designated outfielder Che-Hsuan Lin for assignment.
Rosario appeared in four games with the Marlins this season, allowing six runs on eight hits with two strikeouts over three innings. The 27-year-old spent much of the season with the team’s Triple-A affiliate, where he maintained an ERA of 1.04 with 8.3 strikeouts per nine innings and 0.7 walks per nine innings.
Over seven seasons in the minors Rosario owns a career ERA of 3.48, including a mark of 1.65 over two years in Triple-A. He’s allowed 13 runs over 7 2/3 innings at the major league level.
Lin made his major league debut this season, collecting three hits, all singles, over 12 at-bats. The 24-year-old also hit .247/.323/.316 with 11 doubles and two home runs over 396 at-bats for the team’s Triple-A club.
