Oakland A's right-hander Jeremy Accardo has declined his minor league assignment and cleared outright waivers, electing to become a free agent, the team has announced:

Signed as a free agent by the A's in mid-August after being released by the Cleveland Indians, the 30-year-old Accardo made just one appearance for Oakland, allowing two runs in two innings of work. Accardo threw thirty-seven and a third big league innings overall in 2012, putting up a 4.82 ERA and 7.0 K/9.
An eight-year major-league veteran, Accardo has not made more than thirty-one appearances in a season since 2007, when he racked up sixty-four innings as closer for the Toronto Blue Jays. Overall, the right-hander owns a 4.30 ERA, 6.5 K/9 and 3.5 BB/9 in close to three hundred innings of work over eight seasons.
