The Angels will also send the Royals cash to help with Santana's $13 million salary for 2013.

The Kansas City Royals have acquired veteran right-hander Ervin Santana and cash from the Los Angeles Angels for minor league reliever Brandon Sisk, report Ken Rosenthal and Jon Morosi of FOX Sports:

The Angels will also send an unspecified amount of cash to the Royals to offset the cost of Santana's $13 million option for the 2013 season. Santana, 29, has had a roller coaster eight-year career with the Angels, perpetually pitching like an ace one start and a Triple-A arm the next. The right-hander put up a 5.16 ERA and surrendered a league-worst thirty-nine home runs in 2012, but also posted a 3.38 ERA and threw a no-hitter in 2011.

In exchange for Santana, the Angels receive the 27-year-old reliever Sisk. The 6'2" left-hander has yet to make his major league debut, spending the last two seasons at Kansas City's Triple-A affiliate in Omaha. In his two seasons at Omaha, Sisk has amassed a 2.17 ERA and 9.3 K/9 in just over ninety innings of work. Sisk has never had trouble missing bats at any professional level, but has seen his walk rate skyrocket in the last two seasons.
