The veteran left-hander will return to San Francisco for three years at around $18 million.

The San Francisco Giants have re-signed right-handed reliever Jeremy Affeldt to a three-year deal worth around $18 million, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports:

October hero Jeremy Affeldt appears headed back to the World Champion San Francisco Giants on a three-year deal.

Affeldt and the Giants have agreement on terms of a new deal, sources say. It is expected to come in at about $18 million over the three years. The sides may just be awaiting the results of a physical.

The 33-year-old left-hander has been with San Francisco the past four seasons – one of the few players to play a role in both World Series runs – and will now be with the club at least through the 2015 season.

Affeldt owns a 2.73 ERA and 8.0 K/9 in his four years with the Giants, averaging sixty-five appearances per season. The lefty also played a pivotal role in their World Series title this year, throwing ten and a third scoreless innings in the postseason.

Affeldt’s large deal -- along with Brandon League's $22.5 million deal with the Dodgers -- sets a very high standard for the remaining free agent relievers on the market, something that the other twenty-eight GMs probably rue.
