Blue Jays rumors: Jeremy Guthrie a fit in Toronto?

Buster Olney of ESPN wonders if the Toronto Blue Jays could target right-hander Jeremy Guthrie given his track record in the American League East:

Guthrie is not going to get as much as Kyle Lohse, but as the winter dance plays out, a team badly in need of starting pitching is going to move aggressively. His solid history with Baltimore pitching in the AL East helps -- and you wonder if this might make him more attractive to Toronto.

Guthrie experienced a rollercoaster ride of a season in 2012. The Baltimore Orioles traded him to the Colorado Rockies in exchange for Jason Hammel and Matt Lindstrom last winter. Guthrie proceeded to implode for the Rockies, posting an ERA of 6.35 over 19 appearances, including 15 starts.

Colorado then traded Guthrie to the Kansas City Royals for fellow disappointing starter Jonathan Sanchez. Guthrie went on to flourish in KC, maintaining an ERA of 3.16 over 14 starts for the Royals.

The Blue Jays are said to be focusing on their starting rotation, and Olney believes they could target Guthrie given his impressive track record with the Orioles in the AL East. Over five seasons in Baltimore the 33-year-old posted an ERA of 4.12. This includes his ugly 2009 campaign in which he only managed an ERA of 5.04 over 33 starts.
