Blue Jays reportedly nearing huge blockbuster trade with Marlins involving Jose Reyes, Josh Johnson, Mark Buehrle

A potentially huge trade is in the works that could send Jose Reyes, Josh Johnson and Mark Buehrle to Toronto.

The Toronto Blue Jays are close to acquiring shortstop Jose Reyes, right-hander Josh Johnson and left-hander Mark Buehrle in a blockbuster trade with the Miami Marlins, according to Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. The scope of the deal would likely make it one of the biggest trades in recent memory if completed.

While it's unclear how close the trade is, it would certainly put a huge exclamation mark on Miami's latest fire sale just months after the team appeared to be turning in a new direction.

Last offseason, the Marlins spent millions acquiring big names to bolster their roster in anticipation of playing in a brand new stadium, but the spending generally didn't pay off as the club quickly fell out of contention. A classic Marlins fire sale has since ensued, with practically all of the team's highest-paid players being shipped off.

By acquiring Reyes, Johnson and Buehrle, the Blue Jays could be making a massive statement about just how serious they are as contenders. After finishing fourth in the AL East this year, GM Alex Anthopolous clearly isn't interested in standing pat.

Stay tuned for more, as this deal is still evolving and hasn't been completed.
