The Marlins are receiving top outfield prospect Jake Marisnick and starting pitcher Henderson Alvarez as part of Tuesday evening's blockbuster trade with the Blue Jays.
The Miami Marlins' latest fire sale seems to be quite real on Tuesday evening as the club nears a blockbuster trade with the Toronto Blue Jays, but details are still pouring in regarding the trade. Though there are often complications with deals of this magnitude, it appears that the general framework of the trade can be summarized as such:
- Toronto will acquire shortstop Jose Reyes, left-hander Mark Buehrle, right-hander Josh Johnson, catcher John Buck and utility man Emilio Bonifacio.
- Miami will acquire right-hander Henderson Alvarez, left-hander Justin Nicolino, outfielder Jake Marisnick and shortstops Yunel Escobar and Adeiny Hechavarria.
Most of these details were reported by the FOX Sports duo of Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi, but ESPN's Buster Olney broke the news on Marisnick heading to Miami. If the deal is ultimately completed in its present form, the Blue Jays will be taking on roughly $166 million in guaranteed salaries.
