Toronto sent away Jeff Mathis but added John Buck in last night's Megatrade, leaving four catchers on their 40-man.
So we know that there is a huge deal going down between the Marlins and the Blue Jays...
We know the Rangers and the Blue Jays have discussed a trade for one of their catchers prior to this. We know the Rangers have had interest in [John] Buck in the past...
The Blue Jays have lots of catching and the Rangers need catching.
Toronto still has four catchers on their 40-man roster even after unloading Jeff Mathis and six other players to the Miami Marlins yesterday afternoon. It seems likely that the Blue Jays do not plan on moving forward with all four catchers on the roster, so Sullivan posits that J.P. Arencibia, Bobby Wilson, top prospect Travis D'Arnaud or the aforementioned Buck could be available.
Sullivan believes that any deal for D'Arnaud would probably include shortstop Jurickson Profar, which makes it very unlikely, making Arencibia and Buck much more likely trade options.
Nothing is on the table at the moment, and the Rangers could decide to re-sign Mike Napoli and tender Geovany Soto, but a trade with the Blue Jays is definitely a possibility.
