Rhymes could provide the Nats with some much-needed infield depth.
The Washington Nationals have signed free-agent infielder Will Rhymes to a minor league contract, report his agents at the Beverly Hills Sports Council:
Washington @nationals sign INF @willrhymes to minor league deal with invite to spring training. Previously with #Rays (2012) and #Tigers
— BHSC (@BHSCouncil) November 15, 2012
The 29-year-old Rhymes played a bit of second, third and designated hitter for the Tampa Bay Rays this season after two years as a back-up second baseman for the Detroit Tigers. Rhymes will, if nothing else, provide depth up the middle for a Nationals team that does not have much to offer up the middle behind Danny Espinosa and Ian Desmond, per James Wagner of the Washington Post.
The lefty batter hit just .228/.299/.285 with a lone home run in forty-seven games for the Rays this season, and owns a career .266/.328/.343 batting line in one hundred thirty games across three big-league seasons.
