Roberto Hernandez drawing 'healthy' interest from clubs

The free-agent right-hander has not pitched much of late, but he should land somewhere this winter.

Former Cleveland Indians starter and now free agent Roberto Hernandez is drawing a "healthy" interest from clubs on the market, reports Paul Hoynes of the Plain Dealer:

The 32-year-old Hernandez (nee Carmona) missed most of the 2012 season dealing with immigration issues arising from the falsifying his identity. When he was finally able to return to the States and the Indians’ rotation in September, things did not go well for the right-hander.

Hernandez made three starts for the Tribe down the stretch, posting a 7.53 ERA and just 1.3 K/9 in fourteen and a third innings, leading the club to decline his contract option for next season.

Hernandez has had a roller-coaster career on the mound, putting up stellar numbers one year and terrible ones the next. The right-hander has put together two seasons with an ERA under 4.00 – coming in fourth in the Cy Young voting one of those years – but has had an earned-run average over 5.00 in each of his five other seasons in Cleveland.

Overall, Hernandez owns a 4.64 ERA, 3.5 BB/9 and 5.4 K/9 in seven big-league seasons.
