Debby Wong-US PRESSWIRE

The Milwaukee Brewers have signed catcher/first baseman Blake Lalli to a minor league contract.

The Milwaukee Brewers have signed catcher/first baseman Blake Lalli to a minor league contract, reports Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Lalli’s new deal with the Brewers includes an invitation to spring training.

Lalli signed with the Chicago Cubs as an amateur free agent in 2006 and spent the next six seasons with the club, making his way to the Double-A level.

Lalli started his seventh season with Chicago’s Triple-A affiliate, hitting .259/.293/.395 with 20 doubles and seven home runs over 301 at-bats. The 29-year-old then had the opportunity to make his major league debut with the Cubs. He collected two hits, both singles, over 15 at-bats.

Following his short-lived stint at the major league level, the Cubs traded Lalli to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for catcher/first baseman Anthony Recker. He went on to play four games for the A’s Triple-A affiliate before he was granted free agency following the season.

Over seven seasons in the minors Lalli has a career line of .296/.357/.416.
