The Miami Marlins have signed free agent outfielder Juan Pierre to a one-year, $1.6 million contract, reports Juan C. Rodriguez of MLB.com:

The 35-year-old veteran returns to Miami -- where he spent three years early in his career and won a World Series title -- after seven seasons with four different organizations. Pierre will likely split time in left field with Logan Morrison and Justin Ruggiano, but could see significantly more time if the Marlins decide to put Morrison on the trading block.

Following two years in Chicago, Pierre spent last season with the Philadelphia Phillies, manning left field for one hundred thirty games. The slap-hitting lefty put together a solid season offensively, hitting .307/.351/.371 and nabbing thirty-seven bases.

Now a thirteen-year big league veteran, Pierre is a career .297/.346/.363 hitter and has averaged forty-five stolen bases a season.
