The Kansas City Royals have signed free-agent right-hander Jeremy Guthrie to a three-year, $25 million contract, the team has announced:

The 33-year-old Guthrie had a tough first half with the Colorado Rockies in 2012, but turned things around in July when he joined the Royals' rotation in exchange for fellow right-hander Jonathan Sanchez. The veteran right-hander made fourteen starts for the Royals down the stretch, posting a 3.16 ERA, 1.9 BB/9 rate and 5.5 K/9 rate in ninety-one innings.

Guthrie now has six full big-league seasons under his belt -- all but first half of last season spent in the American League -- and owns a 4.22 ERA and 5.4 K/9 rate in that timeframe.
