Former New York Mets outfielder/first baseman Nick Evans has signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Former New York Mets outfielder/first baseman Nick Evans has signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, reports Andy Martino of the New York Daily News:

Former Met Nick Evans, popular with fans during parts of four seasons spent in New York, has signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, his agent, Marc Agar, told the Daily News.

Evans’ new deal with the Dodgers includes an invitation to major league spring training, adds Martino.

The Mets selected Evans in the fifth round of the 2004 MLB Draft. He hit well in the lower levels of New York’s minor league system and made his major league debut in 2008.

Evans would spend parts of the next four seasons between the majors and minors, and he never really found a regular spot with the Mets. He spent his longest stretch in the majors in 2011, hitting .256/.314/.403 with 10 doubles, two triples and four home runs over 176 at-bats.

The 26-year-old was released by the Mets the following winter and signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He played in 19 games for their Triple-A club last season, hitting only .187/.263/.324.
