The Detroit Tigers decided against bringing outfielder Ryan Rayburn back for another season.

The Detroit Tigers decided against bringing outfielder Ryan Rayburn back for another season, as the club released the 31-year-old, reports Chris Iott of MLive.com:

Rayburn spent 66 games with the Tigers last season, hitting only .171/.226/.254 with 14 doubles and one home run. Despite his poor performance he earned $2.1 million, and Detroit wasn’t interested in retaining him for a similar price moving forward. Rayburn was once again eligible for arbitration this winter.

The Tigers selected Rayburn in the fifth round of the 2001 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut in 2004 as a 23-year-old but didn’t see regular time in the bigs until 2007. That season he posted an OPS of .847 over 138 at-bats.

Since then Rayburn has held a limited role with the Tigers, never registering more than 387 at-bats in any one season. Over seven years at the major league level he hit .256/.311/.430.
