General manager Ben Cherington told Bowden yesterday that the Red Sox are still in on Hamilton. Boston’s GM called the slugger "a terrific talent."
The Red Sox have a need for at least one outfielder this winter as last year’s regular right fielder Cody Ross has hit the free agent market and the team traded Carl Crawford to the Los Angeles Dodgers over the summer.
Hamilton has been tied to multiple clubs this offseason, including the Baltimore Orioles, Seattle Mariners and Milwaukee Brewers. The market for the 31-year-old is hazy at this point, but he is said to be seeking a free agent contract in the range of seven years and $175 million.
Last season for the Texas Rangers Hamilton hit .285/.354/.577 with 31 doubles and 43 home runs. Over six years at the major league level he’s hit .304/.363/.549.
