Mike Napoli seeks four-year deal, Red Sox and Mariners pursuing

Tim Heitman-US PRESSWIRE

Mike Napoli is scheduled to meet with the Seattle Mariners, where he will ask for a four-year deal his other potential suitor has yet to offer, the Boston Red Sox.

With his services available, free-agent first baseman/catcher Mike Napoli could be landing a four-year deal this offseason if he plays his cards right. According to Jim Bowden of ESPN, the Boston Red Sox have an offer out to right-handed slugger, but Napoli is holding out for an additional year that would bring it to four.

If Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington continues to play the waiting game, he may find himself losing out on the 31-year-old, who is scheduled to meet with the Seattle Mariners, reports Bowden.

After landing with the Texas Rangers in 2011, Napoli batted an outrageous .320/.414/.631 with 30 home runs in 432 plate appearances. He regressed in 2012, but still proved to be a fine hitter at the plate, batting .227/.343/.469 in 417 plate appearances.
