While negotiations are ongoing with franchise player David Wright, the New York Mets have other deadlines to meet, including Friday night's contract tender deadline. According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, the Mets plan to non-tender right-handed pitchers Mike Pelfrey, Manny Acosta and outfielder Andres Torres, barring a last minute trade.

By choosing to non-tender contracts to the three players, the Mets are sacrificing team control and sending all three players to the free agent pool. But, they would also be saving money by choosing to do so, as players almost always receive pay increases in arbitration, and could use the money saved in negotiations with franchise player David Wright.

According to Rubin, the Mets are open to bringing back Pelfrey, 28, but notes the Scott Boras client is unlikely to do so. This could be it for the two sides, after the Mets selected Pelfrey with the No. 9 pick in the 2005 draft.

The Mets acquired Torres last offseason from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for outfielder Angel Pagan, who went on to have a terrific year. Torres, meanwhile, struggled at the plate, batting just .230/.327/.337 in 434 plate appearances.
