Once considered the favorites, the Los Angeles Angels are now unlikely to re-sign ace Zack Greinke, who the team traded for at last year's trade deadline.
Just a few moments after news broke the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have signed Ryan Madson to a one-year deal, Danny Knobler of CBS Sports is now reporting the team is unlikely to sign right-handed starting pitcher to a new deal.
The Angels were once considered the favorites to bring back the ace they traded for at last year's trade deadline, but it now seems like the team traded with a few of their top prospects in exchange for a two-month rental, instead focusing their attention elsewhere.
"It won't be Greinke," said one person familiar with their plans.
With the new TV deals helping teams spend more in free agency this year and going forward, Greinke, 29, could be in line to sign the largest deal of any pitcher in baseball history.
