The Seattle Mariners have officially released outfielder/infielder Chone Figgins.

The Seattle Mariners have officially released outfielder/infielder Chone Figgins, reports Greg Johns of MLB.com:

The Mariners designated Figgins for assignment last week, and Johns notes that Seattle had a 10-day window to trade or release the veteran.

Figgins reached a four-year, $36 million agreement with the Mariners in December of 2009 after a productive career with the Los Angeles Angels. Over eight seasons with the Angels he hit .291/.363/.388 and he maintained a line of .298/.395/.393 with 30 doubles, seven triples, five home runs and 42 stolen bases in 59 attempts in 2009.

Seattle acquired him to be a complimentary top-of-the-lineup presence with outfielder Ichiro Suzuki. However, Figgins struggled mightily from the start in Seattle, hitting .259/.340/.306 over 602 at-bats in 2010. From 2011-12 he only registered 454 combined at-bats for the Mariners.

Over parts of three seasons with the Mariners Figgins hit .227/.302/.283. The 34-year-old now owns a career line of .277/.349/.364.
