The Los Angeles Angels have claimed middle infielder Tommy Field off of waivers from the Minnesota Twins, reports Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com:

Field, claimed off waivers by the Twins on Nov. 2, joins Angel Sanchez and Brendan Harris as offseason additions who could compete with Andrew Romine for the backup infielder spot, vacated by Maicer Izturis when he signed with the Blue Jays.

The 25-year-old infielder has spent his entire professional playing career thus far in the Colorado Rockies organization. A late-round pick in the 2008 draft, the right-handed hitter earned brief stints with the big-league club over the past two seasons, hitting .260/.315/.260 in 18 games.

Field spent most of the 2012 season at the Rockies’ Triple-A affiliate in Colorado Springs, where he hit .246/.314/.400 with eight home runs in 121 games. Field has primarily manned shortstop in his five minor-league seasons, but also has significant experience at second base.
