Cleveland avoids arbitration with the newly-acquired reliever.

The Cleveland Indians have avoided arbitration with reliever Blake Wood, agreeing to a one-year, $560k contract with the right-hander, reports Paul Hoynes of the Plain Dealer:

As of Thursday, nine Indians were eligible for arbitration. It's down to eight after the Indians avoided arbitration with right-hander Blake Wood by signing him to a one-year $560,000 deal.

Wood, 27, was acquired off waivers from the Royals at the beginning of the month. He underwent Tommy John surgery in May so will likely be unavailable to take the mound until mid-season for the Tribe.

Wood, who is Super Two arb-eligible, pitched out of the Royals' bullpen for two seasons, racking up 106 appearances and 119⅓ innings between 2010 and 2011. The tall right-hander posted a 4.30 ERA and 1.71 strikeout-to-walk ratio in that span, putting up a much-improved 3.73 ERA in his sophomore season.

The Indians have until noon today to offer contracts to their eight remaining arb-eligible players or else they become free agents.
