The Kansas City Royals have avoided arbitration with second baseman Chris Getz, agreeing to a one-year deal, the team has announced:

Getz, 29, will return to Kansas City for his fourth season, his sixth big-league season overall. Acquired in the 2009 trade that sent corner infielder/outfielder Mark Teahan to the Chicago White Sox, Getz has played mostly a part-time role with the Royals, hitting .255/.310/.301 with no home runs in 254 games.

The lefty hitter got a majority of the starts at second base for the Royals in 2011, and began the 2012 season as their de facto starter, but missed significant time due to three stints on the disabled list and may now be behind youngster Johnny Giavotella on the club's depth chart.

Getz is under team control through the 2014 season.
