Indians claim Blake Wood off of waivers from Royals

The Royals lost one of their own to waivers at the weekend after claiming two themselves.

The Cleveland Indians claimed right-hander Blake Wood from the Kansas City Royals over the weekend, capping a sereis of roster moves that leave two open spots on the squad's 40-man roster, reports Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer:

The Indians claimed right-hander Blake Wood on waivers from Kansas City on Friday, while activating right-handers Carlos Carrasco and Josh Tomlin and left-hander Rafael Perez from the 60-day disabled list.

The four additions bring the count on the Tribe's 40-man roster to 38.

The 27-year-old Wood missed all of the 2012 season recovering from Tommy John surgery. The right-hander underwent the procedure in late May so will not likely be available to pitch until mid-season next year. However, Wood did begin a light throwing program last month, well ahead of schedule, so could be ready closer to the start of next year.

The right-hander pitched out of the bullpen for the Royals for the 2010-2011 seasons, posting a 4.30 ERA, 4.1 BB/9 and 7.0 K/9 in just under one hundred twenty innings.
