White Sox rumors: Chicago to trade a starting pitcher?

Jamie Squire

The White Sox could look to trade a starting pitcher this winter to help fill another area of need.

Chicago White Sox right-hander Gavin Floyd might not last the offseason with the team, reports Dan Hayes of CSNChicago.com:

Gavin Floyd is with the White Sox for now but the right-handed pitcher might not last the offseason.

New general manager Rick Hahn told reporters that the White Sox will have to get creative this offseason in order to fill the holes on their roster. Hayes characterizes the White Sox as "flush" with starting pitching depth after picking up Floyd’s $9.5 million option for the 2013 season.

As a result, Hayes believes Chicago could look to trade Floyd or another starting pitcher this winter to help fill other voids. Hahn said that he "expects to hear from a lot of teams" about the team’s starting pitching depth. The White Sox have a projected starting five of Floyd, Jake Peavy, Chris Sale, Jose Quintana and John Danks to go along with Triple-A starters Simon Castro and Nestor Molina.

Floyd, who turns 30 in January, maintained an ERA of 4.29 over 29 starts for the White Sox this season.
